'Change' - Installation 2008 - click on image

Project type

Public Art Installation

Date

2008

Location

Nelson BC

‘Change’ was an installation featured in the 2008 group exhibition ‘Boom’ in Nelson, British Columbia. The exhibition explored various artistic responses to the city's period of rapid growth. The residents of Nelson each view these changes in their own way; some with excitement and optimism and others with a sense of loss or melancholy.

The installation is meant as an observation of the individual perspectives within the Nelson community. Baker Street is the main commercial street in Nelson. Twenty businesses agreed to participate by allowing text to be installed on the windows of their shops. Each business selected from a variety of quotes that were all based on the idea of ‘Change’. In this way, each store window metaphorically represented individual views of community members. Change is inevitable, but our views on this inevitability vary greatly.
